It has been a while since I played along with any challenges, so today I’m participating in three challenges. The Freshly Made Sketches 625 challenge reminded me of a fun fold I’ve made before, so I chose to make a front flap card for the sketch challenge. I used the Color Throwdown Challenge #782 for color inspiration. I came the closest I could with Stampin’ Up! Cardstock, using Cherry Cobbler, Moody Mauve and Mossy Meadow. And finally, I played along with the Tic Tac Toe Challenge 242 right down the center both vertically and horizontally. One of these days I’m going to try for a blackout of a card.
I’m playing with two new products today – the Magnolia Mood Stamp and Die Bundle and the Textured Timber Stamp Set. If you’ve been reading my blog for any period of time, you might recall that I love texture stamps and embossing folders. I have the Timber 3D embossing folder, but when I saw the Timber Stamp Set I knew it was coming to my stamp room. This morning as I was playing with it, I loved how pretty it was while creating, but as I write this blog post it looks so realistic to me (even though it’s red) that I feel like the cardstock looks like it has realistic texture to it. That’s a good texture stamp!
For my fun fold, I used a Cherry Cobbler card base cut to 7-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ scored at 3″. I used the Textured Timber Stamp Set long plank stamp and Cherry Cobbler ink and stamped the front fold of the card base as well as the 1-1/2″ x 4″ hinge flap with the wood texture stamp.
I cut a 4″ x 5-1/4″ white sentiment panel and a 1-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ white Textured Shimmer Paper panel. I used the single leaf stamp from the Magnolia Mood Stamp Set and Mossy Meadow ink and stamped the leaf randomly on the white Textured Shimmer Paper before adhering the shimmer paper to the sentiment panel with liquid glue. I used a sentiment from the Magnolia Mood Stamp Set, stamping it with Mossy Meadow ink. For the front flap, I scored at 1″ for the hinge on the 1-1/2″ x 4″ strip and centered it on the back of the sentiment panel, adhering it with Stampin’ Seal+ to the sentiment panel. I adhered the panel to the card base with liquid glue so that the hinge was sandwiched between the sentiment panel and the card base.
For the front focal point, I cut a 3″ x 3″ square of Mossy Meadow, a 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″ square of Moody Mauve, which I dry embossed with the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder. I adhered these to each other with liquid glue. For the focal point, I stamped the Magnolia Mood Stamp Set flower in Tuxedo Black Memento ink on Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper. I placed a drop of Mossy Meadow ink refill on a Clear Block D and added a drop of water to the block with a water painter. I drew the ink into the water and painted the leaves with Mossy Meadow watercolor. I then used the Moody Mauve ink pad and tapped it on a D block. I added a drop of water and painted the petals using a water painter. I added more ink where there were shadow details on the stamp. After the water coloring dried, I added Wink of Stella in the center of the flower and at the edges of several petals.
I used Stampin’ Seal+ on the top of the long edge of the hinge to adhere the focal point. I left about 3/4″ of the hinge showing when I adhered the focal point. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back of the Magnolia Bloom and adhered it to the focal point. I added three Adhesive-Backed Sparkle Gems in white to the front of my card.
For the envelope, I used the Textured Timber long plank stamp and stamped in Crumb Cake ink. I’m calling this a neutral color as far as the Color Throwdown goes. I added the small flower to the front of the envelope in Moody Mauve ink.
