Good morning, crafting friends, and happy Tuesday. Although I wrote on Sunday that I had found my card making style, that doesn’t mean that sometimes I don’t want to make something a little fancier. This card is loosely based on a card I saw another demonstrator make over the weekend.
I used the lovely Softly Stippled 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper – a FREE Sale-A-Bration item at the $50 level – to my advantage and chose my cardstock colors using the DSP as a guide. I started with a Lost Lagoon card base cut at 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″. I cut a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Softly Stippled DSP and adhered it to the card front with liquid glue. I made two matted Softly Stippled DSP of the same size – the mats are cut at 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ and the DSP pieces are cut at 3″ x 4″. I used Wild Wheat, which I am really coming to love, and Calypso Coral for the mats. I adhered the mats in a skewed manner on the front of the card with liquid glue.
For my card focal point, I stamped the wonderfully large Stippled Roses Stamp with Tuxedo Black Memento ink on a Basic White piece of card stock and colored it with Calypso Coral, Pool Party, Lost Lagoon and Wild Wheat Stampin’ Blends. You can see when you look at the image how detailed and shaded the Stampin’ Up! designers made this stamp. That detail also makes it so easy to color even if you don’t “think” you’re good at it (I think you can be good at it!). I used the dark Stampin’ Blends colors where the stamp is shaded and the light Stampin’ Blends on the rest of the image, coloring over the dark coloring to blend the two together a bit. My large roses are Calypso Coral, the rose buds are Pool Party and the leaves are Lost Lagoon. There is just a hint of rose stems and I colored those Wild Wheat. When I color, I am reminded of the Harry Chapin song “Flowers are Red”. Don’t be afraid of color – or to color – my friends.
I used the Stippled Roses Dies to cut out the colored roses as well as two small and two large leaves images – one of each size in Vellum cardstock and Lost Lagoon cardstock. I placed the roses on the card front to determine placement, and then adhered it to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added liquid glue to the stems of the large Vellum and Lost Lagoon die cut leaves and tucked them behind the roses. I did the same on the other side near the Pool Party rose I colored.
I stamped the Stippled Rose Stamp Set sentiment on Basic White cardstock in Calypso Coral ink. I used the 1-3/4″ Beautiful Shapes Die (a retired product I neglected to remove from my die stash) to die cut the circle, but any circle around that size will work. If you specifically wand the Beautiful Shapes Dies to make this card, there’s one listed in my retired products shop 🙂 I added three Adhesive-Backed Sparkle Gems to the front of the card for a little shine.
For the inside of the card, I cut a 4″ x 5-1/4″ DSP mat and a 3-3/4″ x 5″ Basic White inside panel. I used Pebbled Path ink, stamped off twice, and stamped the stem with leaves in the lower left corner. I adhered the inside panel to the DSP with Stampin’ Seal and then adhered the entire panel to the card base with liquid glue.
For the envelope flap, I used a 6″ x 2-1/4″ piece of Softly Stippled 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper, adhering it with liquid glue. I used Calypso Coral ink to stamp a single rose on the front of the envelope. Annnnnd – we’re done! This one is pretty quick since the focal point is one large stamp,
I hope you enjoyed today’s card. Thank you for checking out my blog. Due to the Superbowl, the Sunday February 11 free cardmaking class will be a recorded video. You can find the video on Facebook and YouTube Sunday evening around 5 p.m. CST. I’ll be back live on Sunday February 18 at 6 pm CST. I invite you to join me for the class or watch it on the replay.
