Welcome to Thursday. Last week Tara called it Friday Eve and boy do I need one of those this week! Today the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hoppers are working with a sketch. For my project I’m bringing out a 2023-2024 Annual Catalog suite – Let’s Go Fishing.
I knew I really wanted to make this a see-thru shaker card, but I didn’t have anything I could use as shaker elements. I don’t recall where I saw it, but someone suggested using the Dots and Spots die to cut out dots in a variety of colors for the shaker elements. It really is the perfect solution to get elements of any color. I used a 5-1/4″ x 4″ sheet each of Boho Blue Luster Paper, Mossy Meadow and Crumb Cake for this card.
For the card, I used Crumb Cake card stock for the base, cut at 4-1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5-1/2″. I cut a piece of the Let’s Go Fishing 12″ x 12″ designer series paper at 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ and adhered it to the front of the card base with liquid glue. I cut a panel of Crumb Cake at 4″ x 5-1/4″ and placed it on the top of the card base without adhering it. I used a sticky note to keep the front panel on top of the card base and used the 2nd largest Stylish Shape square centered and placed down about 3/4″ from the card base folded edge and secured with a sticky note. With the die secured in place, I cut the square through both card stock layers. I needed them to line up so that’s why I cut them together. I tried other methods, this works best even though it didn’t always cut through the bottom layer. When it didn’t, I just reseated the die again and cut it again. Once I had the square cut out of the front panel, I used the Twisted Rope 3D Embossing Folder to dry emboss the panel.
For the window sheets, I cut two 3″ x 3″ pieces. I adhered one window sheet to the back of the front panel using Tear & Tape Adhesive. I put the Tear & Tape on the panel and then adhered the window sheet to it. On the card base, I placed the Tear & Tape on the top side and adhered the window sheet to the top of the card base. I cut 4 lengths of Stampin’ Up! Foam Adhesive Strips at 3″ each and placed them on the card base window sheet forming a square “bowl” with which to hold the shaker elements.
I adhered the front card panel to the card base, matching up the squares and keeping my edges even. The shaker has been created and just needs a frame. I used the two largest Stylish Shapes squares and placed them on a Boho Blue 2023-2025 In Color 12″ x 12″ Luster Specialty paper and die cut them together to make the outside frame. For the inside frame, I used the Wild Wheat 2023-2025 In Color 12″ x 12″ Luster Specialty paper.
I used the 2023-2025 In Color 12″ x 12″ Luster Specialty paper again to die cut some of the lures. Now I am not a fisherman, so I do not know the proper names for these items. I’ll describe them as best I can for stamping purposes. I stamped the feathered lure with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and then die cut it and the longer die which has a small triangular second piece which I adhered to one end of the lure with liquid glue. I stamped the fish lure in Boho Blue ink on Very Vanilla card stock. I swiped the stamped image with the embossing buddy and stamped the second image with VersaMark ink. I sprinkled the embossing powder over the top of the stamping and used my heat tool to melt the Metallics Embossing Power to a shiny silver.
I added linen thread (still on the spool) through the second hole on the Wild Wheat lure and secured it to the back of the lure with a glue dot. I adhered the tops of all three lures together with liquid glue and allowed a little time for it to set. I used used the frame as a way to wrap my linen thread to the other side of the card. When I cut the linen thread it coiled randomly which was exactly the look I wanted. I used small pieces (think 1/4) of glue dots under the linen thread to adhere it to the card, making sure the linen thread completely covered them. I wanted the Linen Thread to be adhered and loose at the same time.
For the inside of the card I used a Very Vanilla panel. The most important part of this panel is getting the large sentiment stamped in the shaker window. After stamping the Gone Fishing Stamp Set sentiment in Mossy Meadow, I used the water texture stamp in Boho Blue ink, stamped off twice, and stamped the four quadrants over the sentiment. I used the Country Bouquet Stamp Set Happy Valentine’s Day sentiment stamped with Boho Blue ink below the shaker window.
For the inside card decoration I used the Gone Fishing Stamp Set two step fish and stamped it three times in Crumb Cake ink at varying heights on the Very Vanilla panel. For the second stamp, I used Mossy Meadow stamped off two times for two of the fish and Boho Blue for one of them. I stamped the bobber in Tuxedo Black Memento ink and stamped the second part with Boho Blue ink. I adhered the panel to the card base with Stampin’ Seal.
I used a 2-1/4″ x 6″ feathered lure design Let’s Go Fishing DSP for my Very Vanilla envelope flap, adhering it with liquid glue. For the front, I added some Boho Blue water marks, stamped off until very light, and added a fish stamped in a Crumb Cake body with Boho Blue, stamped off twice, coloring.
