Welcome to my blog – thanks for stopping by.
My husband and I are going on a cruise and I was looking for ways to share what I love, paper crafting, while I’m on the cruise. Another demonstrator, Roberta, mentioned that she’d seen tip envelopes, which sent me on the deep dive to figure out how to make envelopes out of DSP since I have a lot of it. I found a YouTube video to make a mini envelope that would fit a 3″ card – exactly what I was looking for.
I love using punches when I am making multiple cards because they’re so fast. For this set I used the Layering Leaves Stamp Set, Bough Punch, 2″ Circle Punch and the Decorative Circle Punch to decorate my envelope fronts and my inside cards. I love how they turned out.
My card starts out with a 7″ x 4-1/4″ piece of DSP. I was using a directional paper, so after some thought I realized that the “up” direction of my paper had to be on the left when I made my directional cut. I used my Simply Scored Scoring Tool and Board to score the paper at 1″ and 4-1/4″ on the long side (making sure that the left side of my paper was the up side) and then turned the paper so the short side was up and scored at 1/2″ and 3-3/4″. I used the larger stylus ball and was careful when scoring the DSP not to press too hard so I didn’t rip the paper.
When I was done scoring the DSP I used my paper snips to cut out the two small rectangles on either side of the top flap. I then turned the paper to the other side and cut the long rectangle on the other end to the score line, mitering the cut slightly. I repeated this cut on the other long rectangle. I then folded the two winged edges to the center on the score line, folded the bottom towards the top and the top towards the bottom. Once I confirmed that my bottom cuts were mitered well and didn’t hang over the edge, I used multipurpose liquid glue in a very thin line close to the edge of wrong side of the bottom flap and adhered it to the tabs in the middle section.
I used a 2″ circle to round the edges because I didn’t have a corner rounder. I placed the top edge of the circle on the top edge of the top tab, and then put another edge of the circle on the side edge of the top tab and drew a curved line with a pencil. I did the same thing on the other edge. I used my paper snips to trim the curve.
I used the Decorative Circle Punch to punch a vellum decorative circle. I cut a 3-1/2″ piece of White 1/2″ Iridescent Ribbon trimming the ends at opposite angles. I used a mini glue dot to adhere the ribbon in the center of the vellum decorative circle at a diagonal with the right side pointed to the top corner of the envelope and the left side pointed to the bottom corner of the envelope.
I used the 2″ circle punch to punch a basic white circle. From the Layering Leaves Stamp set, I stamped For You in the middle of the circle in Starry Sky ink. I used the spatter stamp with Parakeet Party ink, stamping off once each time, to stamp spatter around the edges of the 2″ circle.
I used the Bough Punch to punch the large leaves in Parakeet Party and Polished Pink. I punched the small flowers in vellum. I used the new Bee Builder Punch (available November 7, 2023) and punched the small heart in Crushed Curry. I arranged the leaves and flowers in the upper right and adhered them with liquid glue. I placed the small heart at the other edge of the circle and adhered it with liquid glue near the ribbon.
I love the bling of the Rhinestone Basic Jewels, and I really love that I can make them any color I want using my Stampin’ Blends Markers. This time I used Parakeet Party to color the gems – one large and two small – and adhered them to the front of my card.
I used Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back of the 2″ circle and adhered the circle to the vellum. I then used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the focal point to the front of the envelope.
I cut a 3″ x 3″ square of basic white. I stamped the Thank You So Much sentiment from the Layering Leaves stamp set in Tahitian Tide on the upper part of the interior card. I used Starry Sky to stamp the leaves on the right side bottom of the square and then stamped the flowers in Crushed Curry over the leaves.
Just after we filmed my Facebook live, a Stampin’ Up! package was delivered by UPS. It’s always a fun time to get something new, isn’t it? My husband brought it to me and told me it was heavy. I was cleaning up after the live and didn’t really pay too much attention to that other than to wonder what I’d ordered that would be considered heavy. When he handed it to me it was indeed heavy and the box dropped a little in my hands. It struck the straw of my iced coffee and – you guessed it – iced coffee all over my craft table. I lost all the tip envelopes I had on the table. Good thing these are a fun, quick project that is perfect to make in an assembly line fashion. I cut out all the pieces again, scored the paper and will bring the pieces on our trip and assemble them in the hotel before we get on the ship.
I hope you enjoy making the mini envelopes and 3″ card. The envelope perfectly fits folded money for tips or gifts. These pretty tip holders will work for servers, your hairdresser and anyone you can think of that you’d like to just give a little note to – with our without a tip in it. Please enjoy the PDF tutorial and video to assist you with making this card.
