Hello and welcome to my blog. However you got to me, I appreciate you stopping by. Today we were tasked to create a birthday card for the blog.
I chose to go simple and easily reproducible today. I saw a card similar to this one and loved the simplicity of it, so I thought I’d make y’all one. I used the Hooray for Surprises Bundle while creating this card. I desired a large birthday sentiment and I was looking for a large heart. This bundle has both.
Since I’m creating this in February I definitely have hearts, flowers and red on my mind and those are the design elements that I used. I wanted something especially shiny, so I used an embossed gold panel. Now that’s fun – and bling-y!
My card base is Basic White – Thick. I cut the card base at 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″. I added a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Most Adored 12″ x 12″ Specialty Designer Series Paper (a FREE Sale-A-Bration item with a $50 (before tax and shipping) purchase) to the front of the card base with liquid glue.
I cut a piece of Gold Foil Sheet at 3-3/4″ x 5″ and used the Distressed Tile 3D Embossing folder and the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine to dry emboss the Gold Foil panel. I then used the 2-3/8″ Circle Punch on the right side of the card and punched a partial circle leaving the right side open. I would say that this is about 7/8 of the full circle. I adhered the embossed Gold Foiled panel to the front of the card with a lot of Stampin’ Dimensionals, especially around the curve of the circle.
I used Real Red ink to stamp the Hooray for Surprises stamp set large, flowered heart on Basic White cardstock and then used the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine and the Hooray For Surprises large heart die to cut the large heart. I added Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the heart and adhered the heart to the front of the card in the circle cutout. I added 3 Adhesive-Backed Sparkle Gems to finish off the front of the card.
For the inside of the card, I stamped the Hooray for Surprises Stamp Set birthday sentiment in Real Red ink on the 3-3/4″ x 5″ inside Basic White cardstock panel. I continued my gold theme by swiping the embossing buddy over the bottom right corner and stamping a partial flower in VersaMark ink. Next I sprinkled the stamped image with gold Metallics Embossing Powder and heated the powder to a shiny finish with the heat tool. I adhered the Basic White cardstock inside panel to a 4″ x 5-1/4″ mat of Most Adored 12″ x 12″ Specialty Designer Series Paper with Stampin’ Seal and then adhered the matted panel to the inside of the card with liquid glue.
For the envelope flap, I used another piece of the Most Adored specialty DSP and adhered a 6″ x 2-1/4″ piece of DSP to the flap with liquid glue. I used the Hooray for Surprises Stamp Set small flower and stamped several times on the front of the envelope with Real Red ink.

So beautiful!! The gold embossed background is wonderful with the heart.😊
Love the simple design, love the red heart and embossed gold foil! Super pretty, Nel!
Beautiful – I love the embossed foil panel! A very happy birthday for someone!
Pretty card! At first glance, I thought you had colored the embossing folder before embossing wondering what ink you used that was so shiny. Happy I read the entire post to find out it was a piece of gold paper. Love the circle cut-out idea.😊💖
Thank so much Shirley. I really struggled to take good, shiny photos. The gold foil sheet is way easier than coloring the embossing folder – and cleaner. Thanks for stopping by.
Very pretty card Nel. Love that little cut out for the heart
So pretty Nel! The embossed gold paper is the perfect background for your card! 🙂
Thanks so much Amy.
