Thank you for visiting my blog. Today’s card uses the Abundant Beauty Decorative Masks and colors inspired by the Color Throwdown Challenge #766. The colors I used are Pumpkin Pie, Balmy Blue and Very Vanilla. I also used Crumb Cake and Pecan Pie which are neutral “free colors” for the challenge.
Although I’ve seen others use them, this is my first time using the Abundant Beauty Decorative Masks. I experimented with blending brushes, watercolor pencils and sponging. The flowers and leaves are so easy to create with. The sunflower masks are numbered 1-4, so you know what order to use them in. Helpful if you’re layering challenged like I am.
I needed a thank you party for the host and the referral source for the Stampin’ Up! party I had Saturday, and this is perfect. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about blue leaves, but I like blue and orange together so it worked for me.
I used only Very Vanilla Thick cardstock for this project. I used ink pads in Crumb Cake, Balmy Blue, Pecan Pie and Pumpkin Pie. I wanted a watercolor look, so for each color I tap a corner of Acrylic Block D on the stamp pad, then add a few drops of water with a paint brush and pull the ink into the water. I then used a sponge dauber in the watercolor and sponge each mask element with the chosen color. I use a different block for each color, but you can clean your block in between colors if you wish.
I placed the Abundant Beauty Decorative Masks layer 1, the flower petals, centered on the Very Vanilla card stock. I taped the top of the mask to my table for a little stability. I used a sponge dauber to apply the water color ink to the flower petals. I was careful not to use too much water since I didn’t want to warp the cardstock.
I used Abundant Beauty Decorative Masks layer 2, the leaves, and sponged in the same manner as above using Balmy Blue ink.
Now on to Abundant Beauty Decorative Masks layer 3, the sunflower center background. I learned recently that the center of the sunflower is also petals that turn into sunflower seeds. Interesting. I sponged the center background using Crumb Cake ink in the same manner as the others.
Finally, I used the Abundant Beauty Decorative Masks number 4, the center detail. I created my water color ink in Pecan Pie using the same manner as the others and sponged the center detail.
While I had the masks and my sponge daubers out, I made sunflowers and a leaf on the lower right edge of the inside of my card and on my envelope front.
The sponge daubers are easy to clean after using the Classic Stampin’ Pad colors – simply rinse in cool water and allow to dry.
I love, love, love embossing folders to add some texture, especially when I use a single color cardstock. I took this opportunity to use one of the Basics 3D Embossing Folders to add a cross hatched texture to my card. I embossed when my paper was barely damp, but you can also emboss completely dry.
I cut a 1″ strip of Very Vanilla Cardstock for my sentiment. Since this is a thank you card, I used the Thank You So Much sentiment from the Layering Leaves stamp set. I used the Banners Punch to punch the left banner tail, then stamped the sentiment using Balmy Blue Ink. After I punched the first side, I used the punched discard piece to measure where I wanted my banner to end on the right side. I then trim with snips and punch as usual. That way, I don’t have to guess about where the banner will end. Need a visual – see the tutorial video for this card.
I adhered the sentiment to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added one large and two small Adhesive-Backed Glitter Sequins in Balmy Blue to my card. These are fantastic embellishments as they are almost flat and they glitter – what’s not to love?
Now that you’ve made the card, take a few more minutes to write a note and send it to someone and make
