Good morning and happy Sunday. They weekend is almost over – I hope you had a great one.
I was able to create most of the day on Saturday. I need Valentine’s Day cards and birthday cards. I also need to send out some of the cards I’ve made to decrease my stash. Just curious – what do you do with “extra” cards? I have an organization that supports cancer patients with monthly cards that I like to send cards and postage to. They sent cards to my mother-in-law before she passed away in 2019 and we continue to support their mission.
For today’s card, I wanted to keep it simple. My colors choices were inspired by The Color Throwdown #ctd777. I used Night of Navy, Melon Mambo and Real Red with Gold as a neutral color.
My card base is Real Red, cut to 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″. I added a Night of Navy mat cut at 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ and a Real Red front panel cut at 4″ x 5-1/4″. I placed the small filled hearts and open hearts together on an A block (the smallest one) and used Real Red ink to stamp the hearts in a random pattern on the Real Red front panel.
After stamping the front panel, I adhered a piece of Night of Navy & Gold 1/2″ Glittered Ribbon to the center of the card, applying Stampin’ Seal on the back of the panel at the top and bottom to adhere the ribbon on the back of the panel.
I used scraps of Night of Navy and Melon Mambo for 2 large hearts of each color with the Country Bouquet Punch. This punch and the coordinating Country Bouquet Stamp Set are from the 2023-2024 Annual Catalog. I used this punch to make an angel at Christmas – I think it’s pretty versatile.
Before punching the Night of Navy large hearts with the Country Bouquet Punch, I used the Simply Scored Scoring Tool to emboss 3 lines close together. I then punched the two Night of Navy large hearts with the scoring at a diagonal.
I used the punch again to cut two Melon Mambo large hearts. After punching, I used the dotted 3D embossing folder from the Basics 3D Embossing folders to dry emboss the Melon Mambo hearts using the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine.
Originally I planned to use a specialty DSP for this card, but it’s retired and I try to avoid using products you can no longer get for my cards. Instead, I decided I could create my own specialty cardstock. I swiped the embossing buddy over a 1-3/4″ x 4″ piece of Night of Navy. With the small flowers from the Country Bouquet stamp set, I stamped the flowers randomly using Versamark ink. I did not try to fill the space as I just wanted enough gold to add texture and interest to the hearts.
After stamping with Versamark, I used the Powder Pal from the Embossing Additions Toolkit and sprinkled the Gold Metallics Embossing Powder over the stamped images. I warmed my Heat Tool on setting 2 before applying the heat to melt the embossing powder to a shiny gold. I just love watching the process. Once the embossed image cooled, I used the Country Bouquet punch to cut two large hearts.
I assembled the hearts by alternating Night of Navy, Melon Mambo and the embossed Night of Navy pieces with the heart bases touching in the middle. I used liquid glue to adhere the hearts to the front card panel in a flower shape.
I swiped the embossing buddy over a scrap of Real Red and used VersaMark ink to stamp the Country Bouquet sentiment before sprinkling gold embossing power over the stamped sentiment and heated it with my heat tool to melt the powder. I then cut the sentiment to 3/4″ x 2-3/4″. I adhered the sentiment to the front of the card, over the center of the flower, with mini Stampin’ Dimensionals. I used liquid glue to adhere the Real Red front panel to the Night of Navy mat. With Stampin’ Dimensionals I adhered the matted panel to the Read Red cardbase.
I am a creature of habit and regularly use either Basic White or Very Vanilla for my inside sentiment panel. Today, I made an artistic decision to use Melon Mambo for the inside of the card. To jazz it up, I cut a 3/4″ x 5-1/2″ strip of Night of Navy and stamped the flower image on it with VersaMark ink. I sprinkled Gold Metallics Embossing Powder over the stamped image and then heated it with the heat tool until shiny. I used liquid glue to adhere the strip to the sentiment panel and the trimmed the edges even with the panel. I used Stampin’ Seal to adhere the panel to the card base.
For the envelope, I used the large two-step stamps to stamp my envelope flap. I stamped the leaves image in Night of Navy and the flower image in Melon Mambo. This stamp is slightly longer than the envelope flap, so I stamped with the envelope flap down so that the heart extended beyond the flap. For some reason, stamping in this manner reminds me of SWAK – sealed with a kiss. 🙂 For the front of the envelope, I stamped the small filled and open hearts along the left edge in Real Red.
