Welcome to another Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop. I really enjoying seeing everyone’s projects every Thursday. I hope you are enjoying them, too.
This week, the hoppers were given a sketch challenge.
This morning, I thought this blog was ready to go. I had most of it written – with cutting dimensions even – but this evening as I sat down to finish the blog I was back at the starting point. I just wasn’t completely happy with how I had interpreted this sketch.
So here we go with the third version of this card. This one satisfies the designer in me as I feel like I was true to my design style and the sketch at the same time. For this card, I used the not yet available Painted Lavender Bundle and the Perennial Lavender designer series paper. These products will be available to order on 4 Jan 2024 when the Jan – Apr 2024 Mini Catalog goes live. As a bonus, you will earn one free Sale-A-Bration item when you order the bundle and the DSP OR you can earn more items when you choose the Perennial Lavender Suite which contains additional coordinating items.
My card base is a color I like but one I don’t use much – Blackberry Bliss. I even love the name. I think Stampin’ Up! does a great job naming colors. I’m pretty sure we were told in a training last year that longest a color name can be is 18 characters AND the color name has to translate into other languages within the same character limit. I think that makes the naming job quite important and challenging at the same time.
In addition to Blackberry Bliss, I used Berry Burst which is a color I really don’t use very often. Like most crafters, I have some go to colors and Berry Burst has not yet become one of them, but here we are today using two colors I don’t usually have in my color palette. Now Lost Lagoon and Crumb Cake – those are both colors I use often.
To start, I cut my Blackberry Bliss card base 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″ before folding it in half. I cut a Berry Burst front panel 5-1/4″ x 4″ and stamped the butterflies on the left side of the card panel in Berry Burst ink. I kept my butterflies within 1″ of the panel edge. With liquid glue, I adhered a 2-3/4″ x 5″ piece of Perennial Lavender designer series paper on the right side, leaving about a 1/8″ margin at the top, bottom and right side. I wrapped linen thread around the left side of the card three times and tied a knot in the back to secure it. I arranged the linen thread so that the sections were fairly evenly spaced and crossed in the center.
I used the Painted Lavender sprig dies and the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine to cut 2 Blackberry Bliss sprigs, 2 Crumb Cake flower stalks and 2 Lost Lagoon leaves. I arranged them in two groups and used liquid glue to adhere them at the bottom. I also wrapped linen thread around the ends and tied them together. I arranged them in a V on the front of the card and glued the grouping to the card with liquid glue. I placed a dot of glue about halfway up each Blackberry Bliss sprig and adhered the sprig to the designer series paper.
The Painted Lavender Bundle does not have any sentiments, although if you buy the Perennial Lavender Suite it does include the Perennial Postage Bundle with plenty of lovely sentiments and lots of dies. I was working with the Irresistible Blooms Bundle this morning and it has a lovely friend sentiment that I picked for this card. I stamped the Irresistible Bloom sentiment on a Crumb Cake banner in Lost Lagoon. I decided to only punch one end of the banner with the Banner Pick A Punch. I left the other end straight. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the sentiment strip over the V shaped Painted Lavender dies grouping and over the Linen Thread.
To finish the front of the card, I added the totally gorgeous and sparkly Purple Fine Shimmer Gems. These gems are in Berry Burst, Gorgeous Grape and Highland Heather. Since my panel was Berry Burst, I used the Berry Burst colored gems. Using Stampin’ Dimensionals, I adhered the front panel to the card base.
For the inside panel, I used the Painted Lavender stamp set and stamped the grass in Lost Lagoon and the two butterflies twice in Berry Burst. I used the opposite side of the Perennial Lavender DSP from the front of the card on the flap of the Basic White Medium Envelope and trimmed it to fit with paper snips. On the front of the envelope I stamped a twig in Lost Lagoon and flowers on top of it in Berry Burst. Full disclosure – I’m not exactly sure those flowers go on that stem – or if they do I’m not sure they are meant to be in the arrangement I put them in – but that’s how I used them. 🙂
