Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop, friends. I’m always happy when Thursday comes around because it means just one more sleep until Friday.
Today the Inkin’ Thursday bloggers were given a theme challenge – Flowers.
My card was inspired by Wendy Lee. When I created my pinwheel for my Tuesday blog, I knew I was going to make this card today, so you get two pinwheels from me in a week. And they’re two very different pinwheels.
I’m still working on my plan to use up as much retiring designer series paper as I can before the new paper goes on sale on May 1. So today, I pulled out the lovely Inked Botanicals 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper to create this card. In addition to the retiring Inked Botanicals designer series paper, I also used elements from the Everyday Essential Dies, Simply Zinna Dies, Zinna 3D Embossing Folder and the Hooray for Surprises Stamp Set.
The pinwheel is quite easy to make with 6″ x 6″ designer series paper. I used my Simply Scored Scoring Tool to score at 1-1/2″ and 4-1/2″. I turned the paper and scored at 1-1/2″ and 4-1/2″ again. I then cut the corners made by the scoring out with paper snips.
I placed the side I wanted to show facing up and folded the right corner to the score line which will reveal the other side of the paper. I did that for each flap. I then created the inside decoration with the large Everyday Essentials Dies circle in Calypso Coral, the small floral stem in Lost Lagoon and a small flower in Petal Pink glimmer paper from the Three Color Glimmer 12″ x 12″ Specialty Paper pack. I adhered the small flower together with adhesive, then adhered the flower to the Everyday Essentials Dies circle before adhering the circle to the inside of the pinwheel.
I then started with the bottom flap and folded it up on the score line. I turned the paper counter clockwise and folded the flap up there as well. One more counter clockwise rotation and I folded that flap on the score line as well. This leaves just one flap left to fold. Before doing so, open the flap and the corner, then stamp the Hooray for Surprises Stamp Set “open here” stamp on the folded corner so that it shows when the corner is folded open. Before closing, make sure that the inside element is in the correct orientation. Fold the final flap closed and tuck the unfolded edge to hold in place.
I used the Simply Zinnia Dies to cut the stem and double leaf vein from Lost Lagoon and the leaves (single and double) from a Inked Botanicals 6″ x 6″ Lost Lagoon colored patterned paper. I embossed a 4″ x 5-1/4″ Pool Party panel with the Zinnia 3D Embossing Folder. I assembled the stem, veins and leaves and adhered them diagonally on the embossed Pool Party card panel, then adhered the pinwheel to the front of the panel over the top of the stem with adhesive.
I swiped a 3/8″ wide scrap of Pool Party with an embossing buddy, then stamped a sentiment from the Simply Zinnia Stamp Set in VersaMark. I sprinkled the white basics embossing powder over the stamped sentiment before heating with the heat tool. I left the left side of the sentiment panel with a straight edge and cut the right side with banner tails using my paper snips. I adhered the sentiment banner with liquid glue on the left over the stem bottom and Stampin’ Dimensionals on the rest of the sentiment banner. Finally, I add five Petal Pink Blooming Pearls to the front Pool Party panel. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the panel to the Lost Lagoon card base.
Inside the card I did something I almost never do – I used a light colored cardstock, Petal Pink, as a sentiment panel. I did this intentionally because I ALWAYS use Basic White, but it’s not necessary to do so. In addition to the Petal Pink sentiment panel, I used a Pool Party I added a Pool Party mat. I chose a 3/4″ x 4″ scrap of Inked Botanicals 6″ x 6″ designer series paper to decorate the inside sentiment panel.
For the envelope, I used a 2-1/4″ x 6″ piece of Inked Botanicals designer series paper for the envelope flap. I used the Hooray for Surprises flower in Crushed Currey to decorate the front of the envelope.
