Good morning and happy Wednesday, y’all. Welcome to a special edition of my blog.
I am bringing you this special edition blog on a Wednesday thanks to my selection as the Featured Stamper for Color Throwdown #ctd782 a couple weeks ago.
The challenge colors for Color Throwdown #ctd784 are a rather masculine color palate – light blue, brown and gray. Sounds like a rainy Texas afternoon – or a surfacing submarine.
Since my budding young scientist nephew is coming for a visit next week. I think of him every time I make a card with the Submarine Life Bundle. He’s a smart, funny, accident prone bundle of pure boy joy and I miss seeing him (and his family) regularly. On to the card!
Now this card has a special, non-Stampin’ Up! element to it. The surfacing sub from the Submarine Life Stamp Set is on a wobble spring. I bought a small bag on Amazon, but I’m sure you can find them at craft stores as well.
To create the sea and sky, I used a piece of Basic White as my base layer. I cut the panel larger than I eventually used. I ink blended using a torn piece of cardstock as a mask. When I tore my cardstock, I made sure to have some peaks and valleys for visual interest. I also used a piece of cardstock that was longer than my card panel.
I used Balmy Blue ink as the light blue and added some extra Boho Blue ink at the bottom edges. When I was ready to move to the next area, I moved my cardstock down and over so that the torn edges didn’t line up the same for the next blended area. By moving the cardstock or mask and having the hills and valleys vary across the card, I got the illusion of water and sky I think.
Once I had blended all of the blues, I turned my mask upside down and used the Pecan Pie ink for the sand at the bottom of the water. I added two sand hills in Pecan Pie ink over the blended ink and then used Balmy Blue to stamp some seaweed. I stamped the birds in the sky three times in Tuxedo Black Memento ink without inkin.
I stamped the Submarine Life Stamp Set sub in Gray Granite ink and cut it out with the Submarhine Life Builder Punch. I added Wink of Stella on the portholes for a little shine. For the propeller and periscope, I stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with silver Metallics Embossing Powder for some more shine.
I adhered the propeller and the periscope to the Submarine Life Stamp Set submarine with liquid glue. I added the Submarine Life Stamp Set creatures in Balmy Blue, Pecan Pie and Gray Granite. I adhered the Wobble spring to the back side of the submarine and adhered the Submarine to the card front. I added Wink of Stella randomly in the water area around the submarine. Finally, I added a few Pastel Adhesive-Backed Sequins in Balmy Blue to the card panel.
For the inside of the card I took some liberties and added Lost Lagoon for the sea plants and Night of Navy for the sentiment. I stamped the sand in Pecan Pie ink and the large fish in Balmy Blue and the smaller fish in Lost Lagoon stamped off. I adhered the panel to the card base with Stampin’ Seal.
I did a little more ink blending on the envelope, stamping the Submarine Life stamp Set waves in Balmy Blue, Lost Lagoon and Boho Blue ink, then blending over each wave lightly in the same color. I added a friendly Boho Blue octopus to the front of the envelope to finish it off.
Thank you for joining me in this special edition blog post. I’ll have one more card posted tomorrow before I’m off to Houston. While I’m there, I’ll update you on all the fun stuff I can as often as I can. Please watch my Facebook, Instagram and YouTube pages for update.

Retired Stampin’ Up! Products
My online Stampin’ Up! retired product store has been refreshed with additional products. I will be adding more retired products as I come across them. I have a variety of stamps, dies and embellishments. My stamps and dies are all gently used and most were purchased within the last two years (although some may be “vintage”). Dies might be on magnet cards as I did not start saving the original packaging until just recently. Designer Series Paper and embellishments are new in unopened packages unless otherwise stated.
Due to Stampin’ Up! policies, I can only ship to U. S. addresses.
