Welcome my blog on this final Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop before Christmas. Whatever you celebrate this season, I wish you peace, love, hope and Joy.
David and I usually travel to Illinois to see my family for either Thanksgiving or Christmas (sometimes both). This year we will not be traveling as my husband is on call the week after Christmas and has to remain within two hours of the Dallas area. So, for the first time since we moved to Texas four years ago we will spend the holiday with my oldest child. He’s kind of excited to have us around and not be the one who has to babysit the dogs as we travel :).
The NEW Submarine Life Bundle is in the Jan – Apr 2024 Mini Catalog which will go live in just TWO weeks from today. The Submarine Life Bundle includes an awesome variety of ocean themed stamps and a Submarine Life Builder punch. I like punches almost as much as I like embossing folders. I like the ease of using them and I also like seeing what I can make with them that isn’t what they were intended to be. I am not sure, yet, if that’s possible with this bundle, but I’ll keep trying.
For the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop today we were given a sketch challenge.
This looked like a path for my submarine to surface, so that’s what I offer you today.
I used Crushed Curry as my card base and Basic White as my front panel. I stamped the wave edge from the Submarine Life stamp set in Tahitian Tide on an angle on the 4″ x 5″ Basic White piece from bottom left to top right. The Submarine Life wave stamp is not long enough to go completely across the panel, so i just made the edges meet as best I could. It’s a photopolymer stamp, so it’s pretty easy to manage. I used my paper snips to fussy cut the waves (Oh my! two blogs in a row with fussy cutting!) right along the edge. I used a blending brush and Tahitian Tide ink lightly on the edge of the waves, not too far in.
For the top “sky” portion, I stamped the waves on the back side of a 3-1/4″ x 5″ Basic White panel. making sure the diagonal on the front would go from bottom left to upper right. I cut a random wavy pattern in a piece of scrap cardstock and used that as a pattern then added Tahitian Tide ink with a blending brush to make some clouds in the sky. I moved my handmade stencil down and over to vary the pattern and lightly blended again with Tahitian Tide ink with the Blending Brush. I did this one more time until I had some clouds. It’s fun to watch this happen. I blended Tahitian Tide lightly along the waved edge of the sky as well.
Still working with the blending brush and the Tahitian Tide, I blended in the center of the Basic White 4″ x 5-1/4″ panel enough to cover the opening between the two upper panels. I didn’t want it super dark because I planned to stamp on it.
I stamped the fish and plants on the bottom wave panel using Granny Apple Green. I stamped both the fish and the plants twice without reinking. I stamped the very small fish in Crushed Curry, stamped off once, in the plants.
I used my paper snips and cut a 4″ piece of Pecan Pie card stock into small “hills” of sand for the bottom of my card. I stamped my Submarine Life stamp set sentiment in Pecan Pie ink on the trimmed sand. In retrospect I probably should have trimmed after I stamped, but the stamp was a last minute addition. I glued the sand to the bottom of my wave panel with liquid glue, my favorite adhesive. Finally, I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the wave panel to the bottom of the previously Tahitian Tide ink blended 5-3/8″ x 4-1/8″ Basic White panel.
I used the Submarine Life Builder punch to make a pattern from a scrap of Basic White. I used the pattern to stamp the Submarine Life submarine in Crushed Curry ink (did you just start singing Yellow Submarine like I did?) and the propeller and periscope in Pecan Pie ink. I punched the stamped pieces out with the Submarine Life Builder Punch and adhered the propeller and the periscope to the submarine.
I placed the submarine on the card to determine where to stamp the trail. I used full strength Tahitian Tide and stamped the trail on the inked panel. Using Tahitian Tide ink again and the Submarine Life bubble stamp, I stamped the bubbles three times around the submarine. I added Stampin’ Dimensionals to the submarine, avoiding the area that will be placed on the waves. On the area placed on the waves, I added liquid glue and adhered the submarine to the car front.
I took the sky section with the clouds and stamped a single bird using Tuxedo Black Memento ink in the sky. I adhered this panel to the front of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals at the top of the inked panel. Then I used more Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the entire panel to the Crushed Curry card base.
For the inside panel, I stamped the starfish, octopus, crab and fish from the Submarine Life stamp set. I used Sweet Sorbet, Granny Apple Green, Tahitian Tide and Crushed Curry ink full strength to stamp these cuties. I used Stampin’ Seal to adhere the sentiment panel to the card base.
I created a scene on the envelope flap with the Submarine Life stamp set. I used Crushed Curry for the yellow submarine, Sweet Sorbet for the fish trio, a Tuxedo Black Memento ink periscope and Granny Apple Green for the plants. When I make this card again, I will stamp the periscope over the flap edge of the envelope so it’s visible from the front. Speaking of the front, I stamped the thin plants (the same stamp I used as the submarine trail) three times on the front of the envelope with Granny Apple Green ink and then added three stampings of the fish trio in Sweet Sorbet ink over the plants.
This is such a fun card for kids and grownups alike. I hope you enjoy making it. Tag me at #stampwithnel when you post your card on social media. I’d love to see your take on this card.

Retired Stampin’ Up! Products
My online Stampin’ Up! retired product store has been refreshed with additional products. I will be adding more retired products as I come across them. I have a variety of stamps, dies and embellishments. My stamps and dies are all gently used and most were purchased within the last two years (although some may be “vintage”). Dies might be on magnet cards as I did not start saving the original packaging until just recently. Designer Series Paper and embellishments are new in unopened packages unless otherwise stated.
Due to Stampin’ Up! policies, I can only ship to U. S. addresses.

Last Chance Sale 21 Nov 2023 to 3 Jan 2024
A new catalog is exciting, but it also means we have to say goodbye to some products. Beginning 21 November 2023 through 3 Jan 2024, Last Chance Products will be on sale. Not every product on the retiring list will be leaving (bundles, for example, may be retiring, but the individual pieces might still be available) but what is retiring will go quickly. Make sure you get your favorites before they are gone forever.
Below are the Last Chance Sale carryover and retiring lists in Excel format. The retiring list is in landscape to allow for increased font size. These lists were last updated on 27 Dec 2023 at 8:00 pm.
