Hello, y’all. It’s monthly blog hop time again. Today our theme is “Celebrate”. We could interpret the theme any way we chose. I chose a New Year’s card.
For my card I used the Light the Sky Bundle and made an Easel Card. I got this bundle fairly recently but I hadn’t taken it out to play with until this challenge came up. I love fireworks but usually associate them with the summer – specifically July 4th. On New Year’s Eve 1999, my family went to my grandmother’s home to get a good view of NYE fireworks as the century changed. It was my first experience of winter fireworks. Beautiful, but cooooold in Illinois on December 31.
For this card, I used blending brushes and Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo and Azure Afternoon ink pads to create a panel of various colors to be my firework background. Because the firework is circular, I placed a center circle of Daffodil Delight, surrounded it with Melon Mambo and then placed Azure Afternoon around the edges. I filled the 4-1/8″ -5-3/8″ panel with color. I was not worried about where anything was placed as I was ok with any randomness that happened.
While I have the ink out, I stamped the Light the Sky firework in Azure Afternoon on the 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ scrap. I stamped the next smallest firework in Daffodil Delight and then in Melon Mambo I stamped the smaller size firework. Each time I stamped the firework, I lined up the center circle. I used the Light the Sky die and the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine to cut out the stamped firework.
While the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine was out, I used the Light the Sky large firework die on a 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ Starry Sky panel. You’ll see in the assembly video that I had to turn the firework to make it fit on the card panel. Once in place, I used post it note tape to hold the large firework die and the firework trail in place and then used the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine to die cut/emboss the panel.
I then used a scrap of Starry Sky to heat emboss the sentiment. I swiped the embossing buddy over the cardstock and then stamped the sentiment in Versamark Ink. I sprinkled the Gold Metallics Embossing Powder over the stamped sentiment and then tapped off the excess. I allowed my heat tool to warm up before applying heat to the Gold powder to melt it. My scrap was pretty small, so I did use the reverse tweezers to hold the card stock while embossing.
I set the sentiment aside to cool while I adhered the inked panel to the back of the Starry Sky panel. They are exactly the same size. I put the liquid glue on the back of the Starry Sky panel to make sure that the glue didn’t get put in a bad place where it would leak through. Once the panels were adhered to each other, I added Wink of Stella in random lines of the firework for **sparkle**, because who doesn’t need more sparkle on their card? Am I right? 🙂
The card base is 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5-1/2 and at 2-3/4″. I used my bone folder and burnished the fold of the card at the 5-1/2″ in mark, then made a mountain fold at the 2-3/4″ scored line and burnished. I put liquid glue on the bottom 1/2 of the front of the card base and adhered the front panel to the card base.
I fussy cut the sentiment using paper snips. It’s a mostly square sentiment, so I felt it was easy enough to fussy cut with just a few details. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the sentiment to the bottom left corner. I added 7 gold festive pearls to the front of the card – again, it’s about sparkly goodness, so I probably went a little overboard with the embellishments, but is that really even a thing?
For the inside panel, I stamped the Light the Sky stamp set sentiment on the upper part of the card in Azure Afternoon. I used the sparkle circle and stamped with Daffodil Delight five times over the sentiment. I then put Stampin’ Dimensionals under the stamped firework which will serve as a stopper for the card panel. I placed the firework in the center of the bottom half of the inside sentiment and made sure that there was support for the card to be propped against it.
Now it’s time for the envelope – remember, the rule is no nekkid envelopes. I used the firework stamp to stamp the envelope flap in Azure Afternoon, stamping twice with each inking. I then switched over to the Light the Sky stamp set YAY sentiment and stamped it all over the envelope flap in Daffodil Delight ink. For the front of the envelope, I chose the stamp that looks like a circle surrounded by lines. I stamped that in Azure Afternoon, stamped the small center circle with Daffodil Delight and stamped the star burst in Melon Mambo.
