Hello and thanks for visiting my blog. Today I’m sharing a card I made for my husband. For most of our marriage he had a work from home job, but in May of 2023 he changed to a job with a lot of travel. I hide a card in his luggage when he is packing so he has something to look forward to when he gets to his destination. Because I had a specific recipient in mind, I did pull elements from several different stamp sets. It’s a good reminder that I can mix stamp and die sets to get the look I want.
I kept this card pretty simple using only four colors of cardstock – Berry Burst, Coastal Cabana, Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla. It’s an easy to put together, every day card that I hope you can use over and over again.
I watch a lot of cardmaking videos because I love to see all the creative ways people use supplies. Recently I watched Jackie and Dave of Klompen Stampers use 1/4″ paper strips to make a ribbon like facet of a card. What a great way to use scraps, especially thin ones. That simple technique started me down the path of this card.
I cut my Crumb Cake card base 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, scored it at 4-1/4″ and folded it. I made a crisp fold with my bone folder.
I adhered them to the card base with multipurpose liquid glue. I used very little glue down the strip because I didn’t want it so gush out everywhere. Remember that a little liquid glue goes a long way.
I stamped the front of the Crumb Cake card base with the three leaves from the Autumn Leaves stamp set stamping off once before stamping the leaves on the card front. I stamped two large leaves on the front towards the upper and lower edges. I covered my strips with scrap paper before stamping the middle leaf. I stamped a small part of the double leaves at the top of my card near the strips.
I stamped the lovely script Hello stamp from the Layering Leaves stamp set in Coastal Cabana on the Very Vanilla. I arranged (and rearranged) my die cut greenery and flowers until I liked the look of my focal point, then I took a photo so I’d remember where everything went. I used liquid glue to adhere the leaf swag and stacked die cut to the back of the Very Vanilla sentiment. I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the Coastal Cabana flower and used the mini dimensional to adhere the Berry Burst flower. I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the Crumb Cake flower in the upper Right corner.
I used dimensionals to adhere the Very Vanilla sentiment to the embossed Crumb Cake shape. And yep, I used dimensionals to adhere that lovely focal point to the card front. Even though I did that, it’s still mailable. I finished off the front of the card with three Rhinestone Basic Jewels.
For the inside layer, I used a sentiment and spatter from the Textured Floral stamp set. I stamped both the sentiment and the spatter in Coastal Cabana. I used Coastal Cabana in full strength for the sentiment and Coastal Cabana stamped off once for each of the three spatters I stamped the lower right corner. I stamped the double leaves from the Autumn Leaves stamp set in Berry Burst stamped off twice. I used the matching leaf veins in full strength Crumb Cake to finish the inside stamping. If I’m going to write in the card I always use Stampin’ Seal on the inside layer, so that’s what I did here.
I dry embossed a 2-1/4″ x 6″ piece of Berry Burst cardstock and adhered it to the envelope flap. I stamped the middle leaf in Coastal Cabana, stamped off once, on the front of the envelope and again used Crumb Cake for the leaf veins.
