Here we are again, friends. It’s Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop Day.
Today the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Bloggers were given a sketch to work with.
My Father-In-Law’s first career was in the U. S. Air Force. One of his jobs in the Air Force was as a navigator on a B52 bomber. When I saw Adventurous Sky I knew I had to buy it for him. Granted, this model plane was never something he flew in while in the Air Force, but it still made me think of him.
I love the Take to the Sky Designer Series Paper that comes in this Suite and the embellishments are so fantastic. When I first play with a set, though, I like to stamp all the stamps and see what they do. For this card, I created my own stamped DSP in on a full sheet of Basic White cardstock using Night of Navy, Boho Blue and Smoky Slate inks. I stamped the three sizes of clouds, each in a different color, then added the riveted metal stamp in Smoky Slate.
I cut my stamped paper into four sections of 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ and then further cut two sections into 4″ x 5-1/2″. I cut two because I decided to create two similar cards during the same creating session. I don’t do that often, but I’ve got some masculine birthdays coming and though it would be a time saver.
To create the focal point, and satisfy the sketch elements, I made a floating panel using a window sheet. I stared with a window sheet scrap that cut down into two 2-7/8″ x 2-5/8″ pieces. I cut a 7/8″ piece off the top of the gift tag side of the Take to the Sky 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper. I selected 3 images including the Night of Navy blueprint, the Boho Blue diamond paper and then turned the paper over to use the metal pattern paper. I used Stampin’ Seal to adhere the strip to the window sheet adding the top and bottom first then centering the middle strip between the two.
As designers often do, I took liberty with the sketch by turning it on the side and making this a side opening card. I added my floating Take to the Sky designer series paper to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I then stamped the Adventurous Sky Stamp Set middle size plane and colored it with both Copper Clay Stampin’ Blends.I used dark Smoky Slate and light Basic Black Stampin’ Blends to color with as well. I stamped my sentiment on Basic White as well and then die cut the plane and the sentiment using the Adventurous Sky Dies.
I attached the banner to the frame, then attached the frame to the plane. I adhered the plane and banner with double Stampin’ Dimensionals to the front card panel at the front of the plane and the tail end of the banner. For the in between section, I used liquid glue to adhere the plane to the floating panel.
I adhered the front panel to the Boho Blue card base with adhesive and added three industrial trinkets. Y’all, when you see these I think you will LOVE them. They’re two sided, substantial and, in my opinion, gorgeous for both card making and scrapbooking.
I used the Take to the Sky Designer Series Paper to cover the envelope flap, then stamped three small clouds on the front of the envelope.
I was curious how the plane manages banners that are so large and heavy, so I Googled it. I learned that the plane does not take off or land with the banner, rather the banner is set in a field attached to ropes and the pilot deploys a grapple hook while in the air and grabs the rope, then climbs to flying altitude with banner attached. Before landing, the banner is released into a field and the pilot then lands the plane without the banner.

My online Stampin’ Up! retired product store has been refreshed with additional products. I will be adding more retired products as I come across them. I have a variety of stamps, dies and embellishments. My stamps and dies are all gently used and most were purchased within the last two years (although some may be “vintage”). Dies might be on magnet cards as I did not start saving the original packaging until just recently. Designer Series Paper and embellishments are new in unopened packages unless otherwise stated.
