Thank you for stopping by my blog today – Monday! I normally post on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, but I want to participate in the Color Throwdown, Freshly Made Sketches Challenge and the Creative Creases Challenge this week.
Let’s look at the inspiration for this week’s card. First there’s the Color Throwdown #775 #CTD775. You can see the challenge here. The selected colors were pink, purple and green which I interpreted with Berry Burst, Gorgeous Grape and Garden Green.
Next was the Freshly Made Sketches challenge #618 #FMS618. Here is their sketch:
Last but not least on my inspiration list was Creative Creases #73 – Anything Goes With a Fun Fold.
After all that lead in, I’m thinking you’ll want to actually see the card I made! I used the Thoughtful Expressions Bundle because I love the hummingbird. If you saw yesterday’s blog post where I used the Rock Legend Kit to make some cards, I commented on how I liked the vellum cut outs. Well, that inspiration is here as well as I decided immediately upon seeing the Freshly Made Sketch challenge that the hummingbird would make an appearance in Vellum cardstock. The die cut bird is left facing, so I just turned the cut over for the right facing bird. It does lose the beak detail, but I don’t think it has too much effect overall.
For the card base I used Basic Black cut at 4-1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5-1/2″ and 4-1/2″. I folded the card at the 5-1/2″ score line and used my bone folder to burnish the fold. I then folded the 4-1/2″ score backwards (open) and scored with my bone folder. I added Stampin’ Seal on the book fold inside at the edges and adhered a piece of Garden Green ribbon to the book fold side. I used liquid glue to adhere the book fold edge closed. I tied a second piece of Garden Green ribbon around the front piece and tied a single knot before trimming the tails.
I cut a panel of Basic Black 4-1/4″ x 4″ for the front of the card. I used the lovely Layered Florals 3D Embossing Folder to emboss this panel. I have three strips of colored card stock – Berry Burst and Gorgeous Grape cut 1/2″ x 3-1/2″ and Garden Green cut 3/4″ x 3-1/2″. I adhered the strips to the front of the card with liquid glue. I used the Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine to die cut a small frame in Garden Green and the trio of flowers in both Berry Burst and Gorgeous Grape. I curled the petals of the Berry Burst flowers and adhered each one on top of a Gorgeous Grape flower with liquid glue.
I adhered the three sets of flowers to the Garden Green frame with liquid glue. Using liquid glue again, I adhered the Garden Green frame and flowers to the die cut hummingbird. I placed Stampin’ Dimensionals behind the frame so they remained unseen and adhered the bird to the card. I placed a small Basic Rhinestone in the middle of each flower.
I used a scrap of Basic Black for my heat embossed sentiment. I swiped the cardstock with the embossing buddy before stamping my sentiment with VersaMark ink. I used the White Basics Embossing Powder and sprinkled it over the stamped sentiment, tapped off and then repeated the process. I allowed the heat tool to warm up before melting the embossing powder. Once the sentiment was fully cool, I trimmed the sentiment using the paper trimmer and then cut the banner tails on both sides. I added double stacked black Stampin’ Dimensionals to the right side of the sentiment strip and liquid glue on the left side. I slid the sentiment strip edge under the edge of the bottom flower and adhered the strip to the card front. I then used black Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the front panel to the card front.
I cut a piece of Vellum cardstock 4″ x 4-1/4″ and a piece of Basic White 3-3/4″ x 4″. I used Berry Burst ink to stamp a partial hummingbird on the right lower corner of the inside panel. I used Stampin’ Seal to adhere the Basic White inside panel to the Vellum and then used liquid glue only behind the inside panel (so it didn’t show through the Vellum).
For the envelope flap I cut my colored cardstock in 3/4″ x 6″ strips. I used a double sided adhesive sheet and adhered the strips to the sheet. Before I removed the back side, I used the Layered Florals 3D Embossing Folder to emboss the envelope flap panel. I expected the strips to stick together when I removed the back of the adhesive sheet, but they didn’t exactly, so I adhered 1/3 of the strips to the envelope flap, then removed another 1/3 of the backing and adhered the strips, then removed the final 1/3 of the adhesive sheet. I trimmed the edges with paper snips. Keep in mind there is adhesive on the strip edges, so you’ll want to clean your snips after trimming. If you don’t have adhesive sheets, you could adhere the Berry Burst, Gorgeous Grape and Garden Green 3/4″ strips to printer paper as I demonstrated in the video tutorial. To finish the envelope, I stamped the flowered branch in Berry Burst, stamped off once, on the front of the envelope.

My online Stampin’ Up! retired product store has been refreshed with additional products. I will be adding more retired products as I come across them.
