Welcome to my Sunday blog post. Once again, I’m writing in the car while we travel. David has a business trip in Illinois that I was able to tag along on at the last minute so I could see my daughter. I saw her a total of five days last year – definitely not enough. Sometimes a girl needs her mom and sometimes a mom just needs to hold her daughter.
While we’re in Illinois, we will get to see lots more family including my cousin and her husband who were married on 2021. We were unable to attend the wedding, so on the wedding day I worked on a picnic quilt for them – a quilt with a dark back side that isn’t afraid of a little dirt. Of course, it can also be a lap quilt. I finished the quilt top in 2021 and had it quilted in 2022. It took me a little time to get the binding put on because that’s my least favorite part of quilting, but there’s no excuse that it’s 2024 and it’s FINALLY getting gifted. Not only am I embarrassed that it hadn’t gotten shipped since it was finished, but they’ve had a BABY since then!! So glad to get to meet her husband and baby this week.
Because I’m late on the card I didn’t want it to be too specifically wedding, but one of my teammates made a beautiful white card with embossed lines that was the spark of inspiration for this card. I used Basic White – Thick for the card base and cut it at 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, scoring at 4-1/4″. I cut a Basic White panel at 5-1/4″ x 4″. I used the large multi-flowered stamp from the Quiet Meadow Stamp Set and stamped on the left side of the panel in Bubble Bath in. I then turned the panel over with the short end at the top and, using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool, I embossed five lines in the area where I stamped. The starting point for this scoring might be different when you make this card based on where you stamped, but I started about 1″ from the right edge and scored 5 times – every 1/8″. I turned the card so that the long edge of the panel is at along the top and again, about 1″ from the right side, scored every 1/8″ for five lines.
I used the two middle Stylish Shapes circle dies and die cut each from Basic White cardstock. I stamped the larger of the two circles with the word stamp from the Quiet Meadow stamp set and inked it with Boho Blue ink. I stamped across the top of the circle and kept stamping horizontally without reinking. I used the same Boho Blue ink and stamped the Quiet Meadow “Love” stamp in the center of the small circle. I then adhered the two circles together with liquid glue. I added Stampin’ Dimensionals behind the circles and adhered the circles where the embossed lines meet. I added additional Stampin’ Dimensional on the panel and adhered it to the Basic White – Thick card base. To complete the front of the card, I added three Iridescent Pearl Basic Jewels to the card front.
Time for the inside of the card. I’m always conflicted when I make a card with a Basic White card base because I really like layering a white panel inside the card, but the inside is already white. So do I mat it or just take my chances and stamp on the actual card base. I decided to live dangerously and stamp directly on the card. I used the Quiet Meadows stamp set single large flower and stamped it in Bubble Bath ink on the inside bottom right corner. I then stamped the Heartfelt Hexagon stamp set Mr. and Mrs. in Boho Blue ink and the dotted frame in Bubble Bath ink. I realize that I used pink and blue for this card which was completely unintentional. I wanted muted colors that wouldn’t be too stark on the Basic White cardstock and pink and blue ended up being my choices.
For the envelope, I embossed the flap with five lines lengthwise in the middle of the envelope flap. I stamped the Quiet Meadow stamp set “Love” stamp several times in the bottom left corner, only reinking when it got very light.
And that’s it for this card. As I was writing this blog, I started to wonder what this card would look like if I heat embossed the sentiments in White Basics Embossing Powder? I might have to try that. I do know, that since I had a issues photographing this all white card that I know the pictures aren’t showing the details as well as I’d like, but I hope you get the idea of what I was going for here. I struggle to properly illuminate and photograph all white cards. If you give this card a go, tag me at #stampwithnel on all platforms so I can see what you made.
Join me at 6 pm CST tonight (Sunday January 7, 2024) for a Facebook Live to discuss Paper Pumpkin for a little while. I can still craft while I travel with Paper Pumpkin. If you miss me live, the video will be available on YouTube tomorrow.
